The aim was to address mutual interests in preparing a code of conduct and promoting best industry practices in the field of aircraft storage, return-to-service, reclamation and recycling operations. The association agreed to work in a cooperative fashion to provide aircraft owners with a responsible means of managing the full product life cycle, extending from the recycling of manufacturing and maintenance scrap to the storage of aircraft that are currently out-of-service, to refurbishment of aircraft that can go back into revenue service, to disassembly, responsible parts management, and recycling of materials from aircraft that are no longer marketable.

ASI worked closely on the steering group, and put itself forward to participate in the trial audit of the AFRA Best Management Practice (BMP) set of guidelines. This guidance is composed of practice guidelines and minimum standards spread across 6 categories, facility characteristics, training, documentation and records, tooling, parts management, and recycling and the environment.
