Air Show debut for Renegades parachutists
12th April 2010

Civilian parachute team, the Renegades, will ‘drop-in’ on this year’s Cotswold Air Show in what will be their first ever public display.

The team, drawn from members of the Cotswold-based UK Skydiving organisation, are one of the few non-military parachute teams in Europe.

As well as turning in a first class performance at the air show, at Cotswold Airport, on June 19 and 20, they are keen to attract new recruits and show that the sport is accessible to people from all walks of life.

Rachel Organ, who runs UK Skydiving with her husband Vance Allen, said parachuting was available to “anyone with a passion for adrenalin”.

She said: “There is a perception, which is false, that you have to be in the military or associated with the military to become involved in the sport.

“We want to show that it is accessible to everyone and that it is a fantastic hobby.

“We’re delighted that our first public display will be at the Cotswold Air Show and we hope the crowds will enjoy it.”

The Renegades, who are made up of a diverse cross-section of people ranging from fire officers and mechanics to financial advisers and engineers, are based at nearby South Cerney and can be seen in the skies above the Cotswolds most weekends.

Their display, complete with coloured smoke trails, will be set to music, with Rachel providing the commentary.

Air Show organiser Glen Moreman  said:  “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the Renegades for their first ever public display.

“The area has a rich aviation heritage and it’s nice that a team largely made-up of local people, will be coming along to show off their skills.”

Among the other attractions at the event are the world-famous Red Arrows aerobatic display team, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a giant C17 Globemaster aircraft, which will be on static display and open to the public.

Tickets for the event are priced at £19.50 for adults (£25 on the day), £5 for children aged six to 16, while under fives will be admitted free.

They are available through the air show website (www.cotswoldairshow.com) and from the following Touirist Information Centres: Cheltenham, Chippenham, Cirencester, Corsham, Malmesbury, Stroud, Swindon, Tetbury, Warminster, Bath, Bourton-on-the-Water, Melksham, Trowbridge, Gloucester and Tewkesbury.
